Mandate
To develop a critical mass of highly
trained science and Technology (S&T) manpower by
administering scholarships, awards and grants in S&T,
and formulating and implementing plans for the promotion,
development and improvement of science and technology
education and training. SEI spearheads the direct investment
in scientific training through the implementation of
programs and projects to address the increasing S&T
manpower requirements of the country for economic development.
Strategies
One way of achieving the status of
Newly Industrializing Country (NIC) is by creating knowledgeable,
skilled, and competent citizenry. The Science and Education
Institute (SEI) of the Department of Science and Technology
has been implementing programs and projects geared towards
the improvement of the country's S & T manpower
resources.

The Institute has been building the
country's science and technology education infrastructure,
and giving services and trainings that will further
improve the knowledge and skills of students and teachers
in the field of S&T. It has been implementing programs
designed to tap the scientists' and technologists' potential
among Filipinos. It also takes part in the formulation
of policies and other reform measures in manpower development
which will give the country the sharp edge it needs
for global competition.
Program Thrusts
- To gear science education to meet
the present and future requirements of the government's
long term thrusts by ensuring a steady supply of qualified
manpower in the priority areas of S&T crucial
to national development
- To improve the pre-service and in-service
education of science and mathematics teachers at all
levels
- To assist schools and other educational
institutions in upgrading their facilities to improve
science and mathematics instruction
- To develop science-literate and
science oriented citizenry by creating awareness of
the important role of S&T in improving the quality
of life of the Filipino people
