There are two program categories where students may apply to. First, the RA 7687 Science and Technology Scholarship which provides scholarships to talented students whose family's socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators as approved by the Advisory Committee on S&T scholarships. The other category, The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship grants scholarship to deserving students whose socio-economic status exceed the said indicators.
Aside from the general criteria stated, additional requirements to the JLAP scholarship are the following:
- have a general weighted average (GWA) of 83% or better and no failing grade in any academic subject in the first and second year;
- be a Filipino citizen;
- be in good health and of good moral character;
- not a recipient of any other government or private scholarship except supplementary scholarship which is administered by the university;
- have no pending application as immigrant in any foreign country;
- be a resident of the municipality in the last four (4) years; and
- be a passer of the JLAP qualifying examination
Qualifiers to the JLAP scholarships will be awarded two (2) years subsidy in tuition fees, monthly living allowance, book and other school supplies allowance, transportation allowance, health and accident insurances, and additional privileges during summer, if needed.
Interested applicants may secure application forms at DOST-SEI, 3rd Floor, PTRI Bldg., General Santos Avenue, Bicutan Taguig Metro Manila or at any designated DOST Regional Offices. Forms may also be downloaded at this website: www.science-scholarships.ph . The last day for filing of application is on September 8, 2006 and the examination date is on September 23, 2006.
The JLAP is one of the programs being implemented by SEI to increase the S&T manpower pool of the country. There are other scholarship programs being offered in the undergraduate and graduate levels. In the undergraduate scholarships alone, there are a total of 7,682 scholars currently supported, while under various graduate scholarships, there are 105 scholars taking masteral and doctoral degrees.
