DOST-SEI welcomes pioneer batch of ASEAN CLM Scholars

Top officials of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) welcomed 12 graduate scholars from Myanmar and Cambodia, which the Philippines sponsors for various advanced science and engineering degrees at the De La Salle University (DLSU) and some campuses of the University of the Philippines (UP) in what it describes as “the truest sense of ASEAN helping ASEAN.”
In a meet-and-greet held on January 15 in Taguig City, masters and doctorate students from the two countries who are beneficiaries of a program called “DOST Scholarship Offerings for ASEAN Researchers at Cambodia – Lao PDR – Myanmar (CLM)” talked about their experiences as scholars in the country before DOST officials led by Secretary Fortunato de la Peña; Undersecretary for Scientific and Technological Services, Dr. Carol Yorobe; Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation, Dr. Leah Buendia; Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Executive Director, Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora; and Science Education Institute (SEI) Director, Dr. Josette Biyo. Representatives of the delivering universities were also present.
DOST-SEI announces 946 qualifiers to the JLSS

Hundreds of ongoing third year college students will get to celebrate the holidays early as the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) announces the qualifiers in the 2018 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) examination, which was administered last October 20 nationwide.
A total of 946 qualifiers who are regular third year college students enrolled in various S&T courses are set to enjoy the JLSS starting the first semester of the academic year 2018-2019. The JLSS is a scholarship program under the Republic Act No. 2067 or the Merit Scholarship Program, R. A. No. 7687 or the “S&T Scholarship Act of 1994,” and R.A. No. 10612 or the “Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013.”
Qualifiers to the program will receive tuition subsidy, monthly stipend, book allowance, among others, for two to three years under the scholarship. Earlier this year, DOST-SEI announced the improved scholarship benefit rates for its scholars.

More applicants from the different parts of the country will soon avail of the graduate scholarship programs in science and mathematics education of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) as it forges a new cooperation agreement with additional higher education institutions (HEIs) strategically located in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed last December 10, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City between DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña and the Presidents of the premier HEIs such as the Ateneo de Manila University, Bicol University, Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Mariano Marcos State University, Mindanao State University – Marawi, Philippine Normal University, University of San Carlos, University of the Philippines - Open University (Los Baños), University of the Philippines – College of Education (Diliman, Quezon City), Western Mindanao State University, and West Visayas State University. Cebu Normal University, Leyte Normal University, Saint Mary’s University, and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology also joined the consortium.
