SEI Director Dr. Ester B. Ogena said the storybook aims to develop a culture of science and promote greater interest in reading among primary school students.

“We want to expand further the spectrum of opportunities our students have in exploring the world of science,” she said.

Ogena said storybooks are effective learning tools as it enhances reading skills and interest in reading, as well as impute values to the students.

She noted that storybooks can be used as medium for developing a culture of science among the youth as it uses attractive colored artworks and simple conversational text.

“We want to take reading from the backseat back to the front and encourage our students to hit the books once again in learning basic concepts in science, technology, and mathematics,” she said.

Ogena said the storybooks will feature 20 Filipino and foreign scientists and their discoveries, highlighting the scientific method and personal characteristics of the scientist.

She said the 32-page storybook will be written in Filipino with an English translation below the Filipino text.
