Deadline for Submission of S&T Scholarship Application Extended
by Ruby Cristobal, S&T Media Service

Graduating high school students have until December 14 of this year to file their application for SY 2002-2003 Undergraduate Science and Technology (S&T) Scholarship administered by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). The deadline, originally set on November 23, 2001, was moved to a later date to give chance to more students to take advantage of the scholarship program.

Every year, more than 3,000 new S&T scholars are admitted to the program under the comprehensive RA 7687 and the DOST-SEI scholarships. An applicant for the RA 7687 program or Program A should come from a family with annual gross income not exceeding P 120,000 . Those with annual family gross incomes of more than P120,000 may apply for the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program or Program B.

Applicants to both programs must be Filipino citizens, in the upper 5% of the high school graduating class, residents of their respective municipalities for at least 4 years, in good health, of good moral character and a qualifier of the S&T Scholarship Examination to be administered on February 3, 2002 in various test centers nationwide. The scholarship privileges include tuition and other school fees, allowance for books and military science/P.E. uniforms, monthly stipend, health and accident insurance, one time round-trip fare between permanent residence and place of study and summer school expenses.

Interested parties may get the application forms at DOST-SEI office located at PTRI Bldg. in Bicutan, the nearest DOST or DepEd regional offices, Land Bank branches or from the Office of the Congressman in their area. Accomplished application forms and other required documents may be submitted to the DOST-SEI or the nearest DOST Regional Office/Provincial S&T Center. Other details and application form may also be downloaded via www.sei.dost.gov.ph or www.science-scholarships.ph.
