Students, teachers press ASEAN for education reforms on key S&T issues

Students and teachers from the member-countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) urged the science ministers from the region to push for reforms in education to address key issues in science and technology.

PhiSci wiz wins bronze in 20th Asian-Pacific Math Olympiad

Filipino prowess in mathematics shined in the recent conclusion of the 20th Asian-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO) with a student from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) winning bronze in the event.

Tobit James Narciso, a graduate of PSHS-Diliman Campus, won bronze after garnering 9 points in total scores held last March 11 at the Ateneo de Manila University.

527 qualify for DOST-SEI graduate scholarships, 400 more slots available

Responding to President Arroyo’s push for graduate programs in science and technology, the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) will award scholarship grants to 527 qualified individuals as it announces the availability of 400 more slots.

“In the next three years of my administration, I am investing P3 billion in engineering research and development technology to achieve a critical mass of Research and Development (R&D)-capable manpower,” the President said.

450 Science & Math elem teachers get free e-training

A total of 450 elementary teachers from all over the country are undergoing free online training in an attempt to directly improve mathematics and science in the Philippines.

Dubbed "E-training for Science and Mathematics Teachers," the teachers take up a free online training designed to upgrade the competence and build the confidence of public and private science and mathematics teachers in the elementary and secondary level.

750 science clubbers plant mangrove trees in Aklan

A total of 750 high school science clubbers from all over the country planted mangrove trees in Kalibo, Aklan in a bid to help expand the remaining mangrove cover in the country.

The mangrove tree planting was part of the five-day National Youth Science, Technology and Environment Summer Camp (NYSTESC) which carried the theme "Ocean Odyssey: Fathom the Uncharted Waters."

RP to host 1 st ASEAN Youth Science Summit

In a bid to empower the youth of the South East Asian region in science and technology (S&T), the Philippines will be hosting the first Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Youth Science Summit (AYSS) in July at the Traders' Hotel, Pasay City.
