The 2nd Young Web Designers Awards

General Project Description

A hands-on web design competition for the youth first conducted in 2000 as a component project of the National Science and Technology Week Celebration

Objectives

• To enhance the interests of the youth in information and communications technology or ICT
• To encourage the youth to undertake projects using ICT
• To motivate the youth to pursue careers relevant to the demands of the future industries
• To identify youth talents in web design and harness their skills in S&T undertakings
• To create awareness among the general public on the productive
  uses of ICT

Project Mechanics

Categories

High School and College/Post-Secondary (2-3 year vocational course)

Qualification of Applicants

• Individual enrolled in any public or private secondary school (high school) or college/university/technical school (college/post-secondary)
• Age limit: not more than 18 years old for high school participants; not more than 21 years old for college participants
• Filipino citizen
• In good health
• Of good moral character

Application and Entry Submission

• Accomplish the Registration Form and send together with web entry to the following:

• Web entry for both categories should revolve around the theme:

• Web entry should not be more than 5 MB and should be compressed using Winzip compression tool. The filename of the zip file should show your Last Name and First Name Initial

• Submit the accomplished Certificate of Enrolment Form signed by the school principal/registrar and the Certification Form for parents/guardian (allowing the child/student to join the competition) through Fax Number (632) 839-0241 or mail to:

• Deadline for submission of entries is on September 6, 2002
  

Preliminary Round

• Online judging by the Board of Judges
• Criteria for preliminary round include:
  
  

  Content	25 points
  Design & Layout	25 points
  Special Features & Functionality	25 points
  Organization	25 points

  
  
• Selection of ten (10) national finalists per category
  

Final Round

• On-the-spot/hands-on web design by the national finalists using program/web design tools of their choice
• Contest Proper: 24-25 September 2002
• Awarding of winners: 25 September 2002
• Venue: Netopia Internet Cafe, SM Cebu City
• BOJ to do an on-the-spot evaluation based on agreed criteria for final judging
• The decision of the Board of Judges is final and unappealable
  

Disqualification

Any contestant may be disqualified from the contest on the basis of the following:

• Cheating
• Violation of contest rules and existing laws on IT and e-commerce
• Falsification, fraud and misrepresentation in the accomplishment of contest documents
• Misconduct during contest
• Copyright violations

Consolation Prizes	P 5,000
Round Trip and Accommodation for two (2) to a choice local tourist destination for First Prize winner of College/Post-Secondary Category
Cell Phones for Grand Prize Winners and Special Awardees
