57 Southern Tagalog, Bicol HS studes, teachers undergo Marine Camp

Some 57 students and teachers from 19 S&T Oriented High Schools in Regions 4A, 4B and 5 got a taste of the country’s rich marine life as they become junior marine scientists during the 2012 Marine Science Camp last 14-18 April at the UP Marine Science Laboratory in Bolinao, Pangasinan.
With this year’s theme iSea: Peek. Plunge. Peer. “Immersing to the depths of the sea, emerging to take the lead in the science community”, the Camp challenged the incoming fourth-year students with their mentors through lectures and hands-on laboratory and on-site field activities in hopes of motivating them to pursue science and technology (S&T) careers.
PHL Team takes Anti-Botcha Robot to Int’l Competition

A team of high school students from Bulacan and their anti-botcha (anti-double dead pork) robot are set to conquer the global robotic arena as they represent the Philippines in the 2012 FIRST Lego League (FLL) in St. Louis, Missouri this April.
Team DYCI Blue Ocean 10 from the Dr. Yanga’s College, Inc. (DYCI) in Bulacan will be fielding Meat’s Anti-Germs and Infection Solution Version 2 (MAGIS Version 2), a robot they created and designed using LEGO NXT controllers which can detect contaminated meat.
3,400 hs grads qualify the 2012 DOST-SEI Scholarships
A total of 3,400 high school students have qualified for the DOST Science Education Institute science scholarships for AY 2012-2013, DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo announced today.
Of this number, 3000 examinees who belong to economically disadvantaged families qualified for the RA 7687 Scholarship grants, while 400 passed under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.
Most S&T OFWs go to Middle East – SEI study
Throughout the years, the Middle East has been the consistent importer of science and technology overseas Filipino workers, a study of the Science Education Institute showed.
At the Launching of Recent Publications on Migration of S&T workers and Science and Mathematics Frameworks, SEI Director Dr. Filma G. Brawner revealed that in SEI’s research publication “International Migration of Science and Technology Manpower-OFWs” it was found that on the average 9,066 S&T OFWs are employed in Saudi Arabia.
